Apple iCrate hits the market in Amsterdam
Spotted on the street in Amsterdam: the Apple iCrate (click the photo). No details about the new product are available on Apple's website so the assumption has to be that the product is being market tested locally before a worldwide launch.
The Apple iCrate is designed with those users in mind who have physical possessions that they need to bring with them. For this purpose, the iPod is not really useful if the item or items in question cannot be digitised. It is worth noting that you can fit several iPods into the iCrate.
The iCrate attaches easily to a bicycle, this feature must have been seen as crucial for the Dutch market which boasts 2.6 bicycles per inhabitant. The iCrate in the picture is a cool black with white logo but it is not yet known if the iCrate will be available in a variety of colours.
A lot of thought has presumably gone into deciding the dimensions of the iCrate to achieve a harmonious balance between the average size of things to put in it and human ergonomics. Unfortunately, this means that the iCrate can only be stacked with other iCrates and not with crates from other manufacturers.
Looks promising, but this version doesn't seem to be able to cope with rain. Is there a rain peripheral with a compatible interface?
